Tonight, we were unsuccessful in our efforts to win this election, but our efforts to make Redondo Beach the greatest beach city in California will continue. Some 500 ballots remain outstanding throughout the city, and the margin right now is less than 50 votes of more than 1500 cast. While we must always count all the votes, I do not expect that the remaining ballots will change the result.
We can be very proud. Today's election was a razor-thin margin. We certainly made every effort that we could. Most of all, I am proud of the campaign we ran--honest to the voters, to our values, and ourselves. It was a campaign of hard work by many people, and I thank all of you who participated.
This was the closest race in District 4 in years, and we received more votes than any candidate in District 4 since David Hayward ran unopposed in 1961. Unfortunately, it was not quite enough. As others have said defeat might serve as well as victory to shake the soul and let the glory out. I have a large stack of notes from all my discussions with voters in this district, and look forward to trying to help people with those concerns as much as I can. I look forward to continuing my service on the Budget & Finance Commission, and to helping raise money to build a new North Branch Library. I will of course have more focus on my full-time job than I have had, and now once again have the opportunity to participate in the TAPP program and prosecute crimes for the city.
What else the future holds, I can't be sure--but I look forward to it.
