Or maybe it was Sandy Koufax winning the Clayton Kershaw Award?
No, I remember, today Clayton Kershaw won the National League Cy Young Award.
You will, I hope, forgive my mistake. There is something truly amazing about the Dodgers' 23-year-old left-hander who just won the award named after one baseball great and who remind people of another Los Angeles icon. Kershaw's rocket fastball inspires awe; his curveball became a thing of legend two months before he made his major league debut. I never saw Koufax pitch--arthritis prematurely ended the career of the great lefty, and even if it had not, he would have retired a few years before I came of baseball age. But I was at Kershaw's major league debut in 2008.
And today I can say that I saw the beginning of the best pitcher in the National League.
